When you think you have tasted it all, you have to realize that there are chefs and creative minds that will come up with something even more tantalizing than what you would expect.

We have a new eatery, called Cheeseburger in Paradise! This local new spot provides the area with a scene which depicts what most of us imagine Jimmy Buffet’s daily routine to consist of. I enjoyed the “pressed hamburger”….and the light and crispy sweet potatoe chips. I was extremely tempted to order the Chocolate Nachos, which are prepared with chocolate tortillas, but my eyes were bigger than my stomach room. Perhaps one of our readers will do this for me and report to us. In the meantime, grab a Margarita and enjoy the sunset. We only pass this way once.

Hwy 283 and 30A. I was only able to stop briefly the other evening, because I wanted to see if it was open and what type of cusine. This is another very chicy place, with white table clothes and glowing candles. They will be open 7 days a week and will also serve lunch. Why don’t you try it and give me a revue? Wowie…..we will probably never have to leave 30A soon. All of life can exist up and down this gorgeous road.

They describe the two dips that come with the chips as “hot” and “cold” dip.

The hot tastes like soup (indian Dal) and the cold like a medium Salsa.

At First glance, you would probably turn up your nose (no pun intended) at the mention of the word “stinky”, but folks, take notice. Stinky’s Fish Camp is one of the newest and hottest eating establishments that has hit 30A in a long time.

It opened in the spring of this year (2007) and there has been standing room only since. If you are looking for local wonderful seafood…..look no further. This chef has perfected the oyster, the crayfish or is it crawfish…..[can someone send me the correct spelling of this little critter?] and many other interesting local delights.

This unpretentious but fabulous eating establishment is located on 30A at the western end of 30A near what used to be the Lake Place. You don’t want to miss this one.

Her bar offers a huge variety of Martinis, and there are nights when she features a specially concocted Martini………

Harriet Cromlin, the owner of the restaurant, has achieved a warm and classy atmosphere for the beach crowd. You could wear your flipflops in her restaurant, but rest assured, they will be classy flipflops. Usually, you will see Harriet’s customers in attire which I call uptown beach casual. She has such a great reputation, that I have even known customers who travel from Dothan Alabama ( approximately 2 hours away) , just to come for dinner. Cafe 30A is one of my favorite “beach dressup” restaurants, where I know I can enjoy a fabulous meal, great martini, and see my friends.

Aren’t I lucky? I get to live in Paradise, and also eat in Paradise.

THere is an older dining establishment that has been given a facelift big time! This restaurant is located in the historic beach town of Grayton and sits almost directly across the street from the gorgeous emerald waters of the GUlf of Mexico. Prior to it’s facelift, I used to enjoy eating a fried grouper sandwich and drinking my southern favorite….”sweet ice tea”…..well, you would not believe the transformation that has taken place. When you drive into Grayton (very slowly as the locals require), you come upon a truly enjoyable site sitting on the corner. The old beach bar of D&K’s has transformed into the butterfly of the new D&K’s. As you walk up the stairs, you are enticed into a warm cocoon of vibrant colors, white linen table cloths, and soft candles glowing. The surroundings remind you immediately of a tiny hideaway in New Orleans.

You will taste the dishes of the local fare, such as grouper, crab and oysters, presented in a more sohpisticated manner than the old D&K’s. Wine is a must, and they seem to have a nice selection. I and my party enjoyed a nice bottle of Riesling with our seafood dishes.

Take some time out from you daily grind, and spend a quiet evening at D&K’s. The warmth will be enjoyable, especially during these chilly January evenings.

Over and out from Bert.

A holiday tradition on Hwy 30A for the past nine years, has been a Christmas party at Cafe30A sponsored by many of the local “celebrities” to benefit Caring & Sharing of South Walton. The restaurant was vibrating with the sounds of the “Sticks ‘n’ Stones” Band , the food was even better than the year before ( that was hard to beat), and the people were all BEAUTIFUL. It looked like a club in New York City! The women were dressed to kill, and the men looked elegant in their tuxedos. Usually the weather is quite warm during the first week in Dec., but last night, it was cool enough for the furs to come out. and boy there were some great fashions.
Some of the local celebrities present were, Wendy and Joneau who own Rendevous, Ladie Bea and Wayne Carlisle, Dedon (one of our local artists), Shannon and Rolland Day (also another local artist), David Seering (a local muscian) Harriet Crommelin (the owner of the ThirtyA Cafe) and yours truly ,the author of this informative tidbit. Of course there were over 200 more of our interesting and caring friends who attended this year’s gala (I hope they will forgive me, since I could not include all their names in this report).
The food was excellent! This year, the chefs created a crab cake ball that was bite size and oh so good. There was also an array of finger foods that kept all going back for more, and kept the servers busy replenishing the trays and trays of goodies. If you have never eaten at ThirtyA Cafe, you need to treat yourself to the experience. The name sounds trivial and reminds one of a small diner type establishment. WRONG! ThirtyA Cafe is a chic restaurant with a laid back, yet classy atmosphere and delectable dishes fit for a gourmet, along with a martini menu which seems endless.
Perhaps you can join us next year for our Christmas celebration? Just send me your name and address and I will put you on the guest list! Happy Holidays from Bert
